Mark + Emma’s Summer Wedding at Northfork Farm | Oswego, Illinois

There’s something about a summer wedding in the Illinois countryside that just feels like a movie—and Mark and Emma’s summer wedding at Northfork Farm in Oswego, Illinois absolutely delivered.
Think dreamy countryside views, horses, breathtaking portraits underneath the willow tree, and a celebration that ended with the newlyweds quite literally jumping into a pool.
Oh—and a bird pooped on my hand during their first look. Apparently that’s good luck, so... you’re welcome, Mark and Emma.
From beginning to end, this was one of those wedding days filled with personality, laughter, and moments you simply couldn’t plan if you tried.
A Summer Wedding at Northfork Farm in Oswego, Illinois
Located in Oswego, Northfork Farm is a beautiful countryside wedding venue surrounded by open fields, white fencing, horses, and plenty of gorgeous locations for photographs.
As an Illinois wedding photographer, venues like this are a dream because the property gives us so much variety without ever needing to leave. Every part of the day can feel visually different while still telling one cohesive story. And for Mark and Emma, Northfork Farm was the perfect backdrop.
A First Look... With a Little Extra Good Luck
Mark and Emma chose to have a first look, which is always one of my favorite parts of a wedding day. There’s something so special about those few quiet minutes together before everything really gets moving.
And theirs came with an unexpected guest appearance.
Right in the middle of photographing their first look, a bird pooped directly on my hand.
You genuinely cannot make this stuff up.
They say it's good luck when a bird poops on you, right? So naturally, I'm choosing to believe I personally ensured a lifetime of good fortune for The Youngquists.
All part of the premium wedding photography experience.
More importantly, it gave us one of those completely unscripted memories that makes a wedding day theirs—and definitely one I won't be forgetting anytime soon.
Those Willow Tree Portraits...
Can we PLEASE talk about the willow tree?
Some of my absolute favorite photographs from Mark and Emma's Northfork Farm wedding were their portraits underneath it.
The sweeping branches, summer greenery, and the two of them tucked underneath it together created the dreamiest setting. Those photographs had everything I love: romance, movement, beautiful natural scenery, and an almost storybook quality.
It's exactly why I love using the environment around a venue rather than treating it as nothing more than a backdrop.
Northfork Farm gave us plenty to work with, but the willow portraits were breathtaking.
Celebrating The Youngquists
After portraits, it was time to celebrate.
This is where my approach to wedding photography shifts even more heavily toward documenting what's happening rather than constantly directing it.
The reactions. The hugs. The people losing it on the dance floor. The tiny moments happening across the room while everyone else is focused somewhere else.
Those are the photographs that eventually become some of the most meaningful because they preserve what the wedding actually felt like.
And Mark and Emma certainly knew how to end theirs.
An Absolutely ICONIC Wedding Exit
I've photographed plenty of wedding exits.
But Mark and Emma? They decided to raise the bar. At the end of the night, the newlyweds made their grand exit and jumped straight into the pool.ICONIC.
It was fun, chaotic, completely unexpected, and such a perfect way to close out their wedding gallery. There's something I love about couples who are willing to forget about creating a "perfect" wedding moment and just fully live in it instead.
Those usually end up being the best photographs anyway. From romantic willow tree portraits to ending the night soaking wet in a pool, their gallery tells the story of a wedding day that genuinely felt like Mark + Emma. And that's always the goal.
