As we settle into the new year, I can’t help but look back on one of my favorite engagement sessions from late fall—just before the first snow blanketed Columbus. There’s a special kind of magic in those last golden days of autumn: the air is crisp, the colors are warm and muted, and everything feels calm yet full of life.
Chris and Haley’s engagement session captured that magic perfectly. Their connection, laughter, and easy chemistry made every moment feel effortless. We spent the afternoon exploring two very different sides of Columbus: the natural beauty of Darby Creek Metro Park and the modern charm of Downtown Columbus. Together, these locations told a story that was both personal and timeless.
Darby Creek Metro Park: Nature, Stillness, and Late Fall Colors

We started at Darby Creek Metro Park, where the end-of-fall palette created a soft, romantic backdrop. Muted leaves, tall grasses, and gentle light added warmth and texture, making every shot feel organic and intimate.
This part of the session felt slow and intentional—walking hand in hand, pausing to soak in the surroundings, and letting nature guide the rhythm of our time together. Late fall in the park is perfect for couples who want engagement photos that feel natural, cozy, and timeless. Haley and I are shared "Swifties" and when brainstorming for their engagement session Haley said she was all in on some Evermore vibes. You better believe I took that idea and made it a reality!
Downtown Columbus: Urban Energy Meets Connection

After the calm of Darby Creek, we headed into Downtown Columbus for a fresh, dynamic contrast. The city streets brought movement, texture, and energy, creating a modern edge that beautifully complemented the park’s softness.
Downtown sessions are all about capturing those authentic, in-between moments: walking side by side, stealing quiet glances, and letting the city become part of the story. Chris and Haley moved effortlessly through the streets, giving the photos a balance of elegance, fun, and authenticity.
Styling for a Late Fall Engagement Session
Chris and Haley’s outfits were ideal for the season—layered, textured, and in tones that complemented both natural and urban environments. Late fall is one of my favorite times for engagement sessions because couples can stay comfortable while achieving a polished, editorial look. I especially loved her leather jacket look for the city- it just made sense!
Capturing Connection Over Posing
Rather than focusing on stiff poses, this session was guided by prompts, movement, and genuine moments between Chris and Haley. Every laugh, shared glance, and quiet pause reflects their personalities and the joy they bring to one another. Those authentic connections are what make engagement sessions truly special- and before you ask "Yes! we blasted Evermore in between locations!"
Why Late Fall Is a Perfect Season for Engagement Sessions
Late fall has its own understated beauty: softer light, cozy textures, and locations that feel peaceful without the crowds of peak autumn. For couples who want timeless, warm, and intimate photos, it’s a season that delivers both comfort and elegance. Columbus, in particular, offers incredible variety—from the natural charm of Darby Creek to the architectural and energetic backdrop of downtown.
Final Thoughts
Reflecting back on this session in the quiet of January, I’m reminded how perfect the timing was—right before snow transformed the landscape. Chris and Haley’s engagement session is full of warmth, connection, and seasonal beauty that will be cherished for years to come.
